Salobreña
Salobreña is a historic town & tourist resort, rich in history dating back six thousand years.
Salobreña is situated in the province of Granada on the Costa Tropical. It definitely is Tropical, only 2.5 hours away from us, we were surprised by the greenness & varied plant life.
Salobreña is split into two halves:
The Pueblo Viejo (Old Town)
The Old Town is dominated by a 10th century Moorish castle, El Castillo de Salobreña and white washed houses situated on some very steep, narrow streets. We climbed up at sunset & were rewarded by some amazing views.

The New Town
The new part is made up of new urbanisations, which stretch from the bottom of the Old Town all the way to the Mediterranean Sea. The architecture here is very different to our area with pitched tiled roofs & houses resembling Northern Europe.
Surrounding Area
The whole resort is surrounded by sugar cane fields and Europe’s last remaining sugar cane factory is located west of La Caleta de Salobreña. We took a walk here, under the castle through sugar cane fields.
Beaches
Salobreña has a Penon (rock), where tourists can enjoy two of the resorts best beaches which are the Playa La Guardia and the Playa de la Charca.
