Tour of Spain – Week 1: Madrid, Aranjuez, Ávila, Segovia & Salamanca

I’ve included an extra 2 days into ‘week one’ so that from now on the blogs run from Monday to Sunday.

Madrid

We split the stay, one night before traveling onto Aranjuez by train & two after.

Aranjuez

Aranjuez is a 30-40 minute train journey from Madrid’s Atocha Station. With a beautiful Royal Palace & gardens, it is well worth a visit & was practically deserted by tourists. It was extremely hot however, & being by the river, unfortunately mosquito season. If you visit, download the Patrimonial National app for €3.50 with audio tours of the 5 major palaces in Spain, in various languages.

Ávila

We used this beautiful walled city as our base for 5 nights, traveling out for day trips to Segovia & Salamanca.

Segovia

Segovia, famous for the giant Aquaduct, Alcazar & Cathedral.

Salamanca

The famous University city with amazing architecture & Cathedral.

Next week: Burgos, León & Pontevedra
