The Sierra Maria is a designated Natural Park located in the North of Andulucia. It was recommended to us by several friends, so we decided to set off for a day trip.
The tourist information sites, show lush green forests, rivers & snow capped mountains, however, in late October the scenery is still dry & fairly barren. I’ve updated this blog with our later visit which was in Spring; the castle was open & we had a chance to look around.
We set off for Velez Rubio first, followed by a drive around Maria & the NP. We wanted to see the famous cave drawings, unfortunately they were closed for the winter season. Lastly, we visited Velez Blanco with its amazing castle & pueblo of white houses.
