We visited Bangkok at the start of our journey see: Exploring Bangkok and returned at the end of the month, before flying off to Cambodia. We were keen to tick off a few more things this time around:
Lumphini Park
A great place to get away from the manic city & sit under a tree.

Khao San Road
Listed in Lonely Planet’s top 10 things in Bangkok, we headed off. This is listed as backpacker & party scene. During the day it’s quite relaxed, but apparently after dark, it becomes party paradise. Not the easiest area to get to, we visited during the day.
We took the MRT, then Skytrain & finally a tuk tuk.
It’s Ok, but in our opinion we’ve seen better.
It’s worth going just for the journey. We came back via the river taxi, then MRT from Saphan Taskin (combining all 4 major transport experiences into one day trip).
Take in a Rooftop Bar
We visited Vertigo on 61st flr of Banyan Tree Resort (short walk from Lumphini MRT).
Be prepared for very expensive drinks. We skipped the beers & just enjoyed the view. Also note the dress code, trousers & covered shoes can be ‘borrowed’ on arrival.
Here is a link to the top 10 roof top bars!
More Shopping
We’re not really into shopping, but the malls are a great place to get out of the heat & find refuge in the air conditioning.
The Financial District
If you want to see some modern architecture, wealthy workers & the odd Lamborghini take a trip around the financial district.

I’d love a drink in that roof bar, what a view. Crazy seeing M and S there!
