We would not normally dedicate a whole blog to one road in a city, but once we saw the beautiful Colonial mansions that line this street, we thought it was worth it (just this once).
Having taken an hour or so to walk the length of this tree lined, 4 lane road & seen the beautiful historic residences, we were impressed. Most of the mansions have been turned into offices, museums, restaurants or private schools, but the splendor of the external architecture remains.
There are also two of the city’s main museums situated in the road. We visited the Museum of Anthropology, well worth a visit (dedicated to the story of Mayan people through history, to present day).
If you ignore the Mac Donalds & Starbucks, you could transport yourself back to the splendor of 19th Century.
Situated towards the top of the road, on the main roundabout, is the Monumento a la Bandera (flag monument).
