Having been used to the chicken buses during our travels, we decided to split our journey from Bacalar to Campeche. Looking on the map, Xpuhil looked slightly less than half way & as good a place as any. We had not yet experienced the luxury that is Mexico’s bus service & could have done the 6.5 hrs in one go. However, we are glad we arranged a stop in Xpuhil.
The town is situated along the main road to Campeche, with a few residential side roads. It has a couple of hotels & some restaurants & bars. The main draw is its location to many of the Mayan ruins in the Campeche region along with caves & museums. The town itself is dotted with small ruins (one in the back of a local’s house) along with the visitor site of Xpuhil.
As we arrived late afternoon, we decided to look around. For the £2 entrance fee each, we are glad we made the visit.
