After some bad weather in France, we head south into Spain. Our first stop San Sebastian (SS).
An amazing city by the sea in Basque country. The weather is still not great, but that doesn’t matter with so much to do. Here are the highlights…
* The city has amazing architecture & history.
* There are two beautiful beaches & a popular surfing culture.
* We are camping in the mountains outside SS, with amazing views.
* We will stay until the end of the week, then on to Pamplona.
Food! Ok there is tapas in other parts of Spain I hear you say; but not like this. Every bar, at every point of the day, is full of it. It covers the bar area so there is nowhere to place your drink. The variety amazing.
Served traditionally on pieces of bread (I once read this is because it was traditionally a lid for your drink. It would be great to know if this is true?)
The city is a mecca for international travellers, Aussies, Americans, Japanese as well as Europeans, so its not cheap. 6 pieces of tapas & 2 small beers cost approx €10. In Granada last year, we could get a cana for approx €1.20 with one free tapa in comparison… But not to this standard.
